How to Get Rid of Acne Naturally

Acne medications are one way to prevent breakouts, but they come with other side effects like dry skin, discoloration, more breakouts, and irritation/sensitivity at the problem area. Here are some simple, natural ways to end your problem, without wasting your money.

 Steps

  1. Honey: Honey is a great substance that heals your current and previous breakouts. If you have ever had a pimple in one area that keeps coming back or have popped a zit that has not properly healed. That means it will keep coming back. Put an OPEN bottle of honey in the microwave for 10 seconds, wash your hands and the problem area and apply honey in a circular motion. Leave it on for 10 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. Try not to use soap.

  2. Use tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal medicine used for a wide variety of medical applications. One study looked at the effectiveness of tea tree oil against benzoyl peroxide, a common acne chemical, and found that tea tree oil was just as effective fighting pimples as benzoyl peroxide.
    • Apply to the skin in small amounts. Get equal parts of tea tree oil extract and water, combine them, and use a Q-Tip to dab pimples with the mixture. Use in small quantities.
    • Stay away from tea tree oil if you have very sensitive skin or you have eczema in addition to acne.
    •
  3. Aloe Vera: This is great because if you have an acne scar, it will heal it and prevent drying, peeling, and pimples without making skin dry or oily. Use like regular moisturizer once a day, after you wash your face in the morning.

  4. Use baking soda. Baking soda is another one of those items that has a ton of uses. Baking soda has antifungal and antiseptic properties (that's why lots of people use it to keep their refrigerators clean), and also works as a natural exfoliant.[2] Use baking soda in several different ways:
    • Create a spot-treatment by mixing water and baking soda together to create a thick paste. Put on affected areas and let dry for 2 to 3 minutes. Wash away with warm water.
    • Exfoliate with baking soda by mixing some baking soda with your regular natural cleanser. Exfoliating means wiping away the dead layer of skin cells on the top of your skin, called the epidermis.[3] Wash exfoliant over your entire face and leave for 5 minutes. Wash off with warm water.
  5. Water: Since you have oily skin, you will need to "train" it to produce less oil. Every hour or so, go to the restroom, wash your hands, and gently rub warm water on your problem area until you can no longer feel that greasiness. Repeat every hour. You will be surprised how much oil your skin has produced, and train it.

  6. Harness the power of lemons. Lemon juice contains citric acid, which may or may not be the hero in fighting acne. Regardless, many people swear by lemon juice, preferring it as both a cheap and effective alternative to store-bought acne products.[4] Lemon juice also has skin-lightening properties[5], meaning that it will slowly help cover up blemishes and scars.
    • Wash your face with antibacterial soap or hold it over steam to open up your pores.
    • Wring out the juice of half a lemon in a juicer, or by squeezing them with your hands.
    • Take a cotton ball, dip it in the lemon juice, and wipe it over affected areas. Dilute the lemon juice with water if applying the lemon juice stings.
    • Leave on skin for anywhere from 15 minutes to overnight. Wash off when you're satisfied lemon juice has worked.
  7. Home-made masks: Store-bought masks are not exactly promising, and it's not what it says on the box that matters. It's what it says in the ingredients list. If the ingredients have oils or fatty substances, they won't clear up your skin no matter what. Try this at home mask: 2 spoons of aloe vera gel mixed with 1/2 spoon lemon juice. Add one spoon of salt and fold it in. Apply only on problem area in a circular motion. Leave on for 5 minutes and rinse off with warm water.

  8. Try potassium alum. Potassium alum is an antibacterial and antiseptic, making it widespread in the use of natural deodorants. Since acne is also caused by bacteria, application of potassium alum might be helpful in inhibiting growth of acne-causing bacteria.
  9. Walking: If you never exercise, it means that your skin is normal and produces enough oil, but it never has anywhere to put it. Take a brisk walk or jog, even through your house for 5 minutes every day. Increase it to 10 minutes if you do not see results.

  10. Avoid dairy, especially milk. You don't have to avoid milk altogether, but understand that studies have linked cow's milk consumption in humans to both more acne and higher severity of acne.[6] It's most likely because milk causes male sex hormones, such as testosterone or androgens, to spike as it increases your insulin levels.[6] So if you want to try to limit your acne, see if reduced dairy intake helps.
  11. Stay away from cleansers: Cleansers have tons of ingredients that can ruin the balance of your skin. Either use a gentle facial bar, or make your own cleanser: Take 1 diced pear and put in blender on high. Add 1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil (it makes amazing differences to any skin), and blend well. If you want to increase thickness, put in a double boiler for 4 minutes and stir.

 Tips

  • If you follow the steps above, you won't need to minimize your make-up use.
  • Always try to heat the honey in a microwave for 10 sec. before using rather than using it while it is sticky and hard. Makes a huge difference.
  • Don't touch your face during the day. For most people it is an unconscious habit, so instead you can carry 2-3 wet wipes to clean your hands.
  • Soak your face in salt.
  • When you are making the pear cleanser, if you choose to thicken it, don't cook the mixture.
  • Use the 'acne erasing secrets' cleanse method to help heal the skin and remove toxins.
  • You can use toothpaste that is the pasty kind at night and if you want, put a bandaid over it.
  • Use an Aloe Vera gel sleeping mask. After cleansing your face, apply aloe gel on your face and let it dry. Then go to sleep with the aloe still on and rinse off the next morning.

 Warnings

  • It is a myth that putting antiperspirant on your acne area will prevent oily skin. THIS IS WRONG!!! It is very dangerous, especially on the face, can overheat your body, and make your skin look dirty. Plus, there could be infections, discolorations, and bad smells
